Description
The Lost Generation is a famous term used for the generation of young people who grew up during or after World War I. These people felt confused, disappointed, and emotionally broken because the war destroyed many of their dreams and beliefs. The term became popular through writers such as Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein.
In 1936, writer Maxine Davis published the book The Lost Generation: A Portrait of American Youth Today. The book describes the struggles, unemployment, frustration, and uncertainty faced by American youth during the Great Depression.
